The August 2010 meeting had a good turnout for Hilary Turner's demonstration of how to knit pockets. It was also the premiere for our new projection system, which can be seen on the photo below!
Prior to the demonstration, Pat reminded all of the Knit and Natter event in October, and charity knitting for premature babies, showing us Shirley's first contribution, a baby blanket:
Hilary began by showing us samples of pouch pockets, internal bag pockets, slit pockets and pocket flaps.
Then went on to show us how to knit a pocket which was bagged at the back of the knitting, and how to knit a triangular flap to lie on top of it. Here she is turning the finished flap to the right side.
She was very patient at answering questions, even whilst knitting, which caused her a few minor problems!
And at the end there was a debate about the advantages and disadvantages of adding pockets to garments.
Many members also bought yarn from her considerable stash, a fraction of which can be seen in the picture above.
